What is an agentic PIM?

Definition, how it works and how it differs from a traditional PIM and an AI-assisted PIM, with examples from B2B and B2C catalogs.

Definition

Agentic PIM: a product information system in which AI agents work on the catalog with their own goals and permissions: they detect gaps and conflicts, complete attributes, translate, generate content and prepare publishing for each channel, always with the source of every value and a person's approval.

  • A single source of truth for product data
  • Agents that act, not just suggest
  • Source and date on every value
  • Human approval where it matters

Your systems feed a single version of each product. Agents enrich it, translate it and get it ready. Every channel gets its own version.

Questions about agentic PIM

What does “agentic” mean?

That the AI acts as an agent: it has a goal, uses tools and prepares actions, instead of only answering when asked.

Is an AI-assisted PIM an agentic PIM?

No. An AI-assisted PIM usually adds a button to generate copy. In an agentic PIM, agents work on the catalog continuously, with permissions and a log.

Does it replace the product team?

No. It takes the repetitive work off their plate. The team moves to setting rules and approving.

What's the difference between PIM, MDM and DAM?

A PIM manages product information; an MDM, shared master data; a DAM, digital assets. An agentic PIM like KnowOS brings them together in a single source of truth.

When does it make sense?

When you have thousands of SKUs, several languages or channels, and data spread across ERP, PLM, suppliers and spreadsheets.
